Winner - Sunset Power

Is this a scene in science fiction? At the first glance, one might think that way. However, it is a real scene that I captured in the evening of October 28, 2008, in Calgary, Canada.

This is a phenomenon called “chinook arch”. It is a thick band of clouds separated by a layer of clear sky above the mountains. This phenomenon is caused by orographic lifting, which is more noticeably seen in southern Alberta in Canada.

Here, I used a super wide angle to shoot the image for covering more areas. This is an HDR image, created with three pictures in RAW format with the standard and two additional exposure times (+/- 2 EV).

It’s the end of the world! HDR is abused so often, it’s great to see it used to emphasise the strengths of a photo, rather than to try and ‘create’ a strength which just isn’t there!

It’s a screen shot from Terminator 2. I remember that scence, when the world is nuked!
