Nikon’s Dream Combos - D700 & D300

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Since the release of D3 and D300, we realized and surprised a new strategy from Nikon. Both Cameras defined a new standard in features & performance, though both come with an effective pixels count of 12 MP, D3 and D300 are sitting a clear position in their own class.

About a year after that, Nikon released another FX body D700 and cropped body D90, and now we have the Nikon’s top DSLR cameras running in unified standard for the pixels count - 12 MP. Obviously, thats not by chance, it should be the Nikon’s schedule to rollout their own rules for the game…. full article.

Thought of the Canon EOS 50D Digital Camera

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

While most people is expecting the next FF body from Canon as replacement to Canon EOS 5D FF digital camera, Canon announced the 50D a year after the arrival of the EOS 40D. It incorporable the latest technologies and MP that is originally expected to be in the FF replacement body. Now, the new 50D looks like a replacement of the 5D except it is not with a FF sensor. The 50D comes with a new design cropped sensor at 15MP with better performance in higher ISO ranging from 100-3200 and extendable upto 12800 (one-stop better than 5D?), DIGIC 4 image processor, better LCD, Live view and even the Face detection.

Canon’s Top Priority Move
It seems interesting, but I would consider this is a necessary move as response to Nikon’s recent hot cakes. Obviously, the D300 is a killer in the prosumer segment for its value - rich set features and performance. Canon’s top priority is to catch-up and try to retain the share in this market segment.

While I don’t think the 15MP 50D is attractive enough to call switches from existing Nikon users, it will be certainly one of the very first options in new purchasers’ short list … full article.

Map out dead pixels on Canon EOS 5D

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Here is a non-official way (do-it-yourself-at-home) on the forum to map out dead pixels on Canon EOS 5D.

Make a shot with lens cap on at eg. 1/5 seconds and 1600 ISO with auto-focus off (or turn off noise reduction in CF and make shutter open for longer). After that go to Sensor Cleaning and turn it on (as cleaning the CMOS when mirror is up and shutter is open, but leave lens on) for a minute. Yes, it should be long enough. After that, switch camera off, then - on and - YOUR DEAD PIXELS ARE GONE!

Have you tried that?
