Erithacus Rubecula - From the Camera

This one in the photo, I used to see him every day as I walked around my local loch (lake). He’d follow me as soon as I was spotted, to the end of his territory, but every time I lifted the camera, he’d fly off then come back. It was almost like he was playing a game with me. Not willing to be outdone by a Robin, I started to feed him every day, after a few weeks and a hard frost on the ground, he was eating out of my hand. The camera then became no problem.

Infrared Photography - Hijinks
http://www.photos-of-the-year.com/articles/inf-hij/

Recently I’ve received a handful of questions regarding my infrared photography. I’ve only been shooting IR for a year or two, so I’m hardly an expert at this. I actually love color and color photographs, but there’s something so interesting in the possibilities of IR. I figured I could help shed some light on the subject, and hopefully get more useful tips from others out there who shoot IR. So here goes nothing….

Zoo Photography

Many times I was asked, if it isn’t to boring for me to shoot Birds and other animals in a Zoo or respectivly an Animal-Farm. And my short answer is “No, it isn’t”, but you won’t hear the short answer. Finally there are many arguments for Zoo-Photography. My heaviest argument is that I don’t disturb an animal in his nature environment.

Ice Photography

Most of the ice photos I’ve ever seen just miss the mark for me. Even when impressive and technically superb, they generally go for the grand panorama or concentrate on an activity and wind up looking like postcards. Rarely do they reveal anything unexpected or lead you into the earth. Since this last winter was my first with a camera, I decided this was my chance to see if I could use ice to reveal my own aesthetic.

Submit your articles, you don’t have to be a professional photographer nor with advance equipments, this is an inspiring share on the personal story on photography, techniques and review.

Erithacus Rubecula - From the Camera

Monday, March 21st, 2005

The idea for this shot came a few months ago. It was coming up for Christmas, and getting cards with dull images on them. I wanted to create a card for friends and family, which was more personal, than the ones bought out of a shop.

Snow scenes were out of the question, as we’d had very little snow, so the next choice was the traditional Robin Red Breast.

Don’t let looks fool you, as endearing as he looks, he is extremely aggressive and territorial to other birds, but during the winter months and food becomes harder to find, he is the total opposite.
