Canon EOS 450D User Experience

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Canon EOS EOS 450D User Experience I wanted to share my experience with the 450d after having it for one week. First of all, please note that I am an amateur at best and I never shoot raw and never use a tripod.

Last weekend I traded in my 400d for the 450d, actually got the 450d for free and a $100.00 credit, but that is another story. I mostly shoot birds and primarily use the canon 70-300 IS lens, preferably with the IS turned off for sharper photos.

Since I got the 450, I have taken about 1000 shots, mostly of random objects. But I have had occasion to use the camera in good shooting conditions with good light.

My impression overall is positive. The pictures look better to me and I love the spot metering. When I say “better” I mean there is more color and more natural light in the photos. The pics do tend to overexpose considerably compared to the 400d. So if my subject is in direct sunlight, I turn the EV down 1/3rd … full article.

Winner - Crystal Mill

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

This was taken in Crystal City CO. It is an old Mill. It is not an easy place to get to. I had originally had this entered last month but by accident moved it out of the contest a day or so after voting started. I tried to make an edit of the photo and lost it again on this site. I have had real troubles getting this one submitted but it is one of my favorites and just taken this summer.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II - Roadmap to Full Frame & Higher Pixels

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Ok, now we finally have the much-anticipated full frame DSLR from Canon, expected as the replacement for 5D, it is not 3D nor 7D but 5D Mark II - this time it packed with a higher pixels sensor, this makes all Canon full frame DSLRs at 21MP. Is that a new trend and association set between “Full Frame” and “Higher Pixels”?

Though 5D Mark II comes with a new 21 MP sensor (similar to the sensor in the EOS-1Ds Mark III), DIGIC 4 and 1080p HD movie recording, many people were disappointed for its lacking of professional features, in particular, a more advanced AF system. Yes, 5D Mark II is rather a “conservative” design, that is actually a refinement/ catch-up revision - Canon intended to preserve the unique market segment, style and conventions already built by 5D.

On the other hand, Canon also quickly sent Sony a message - “New player is not welcome” … full article.
